Walter Battle is a dedicated advocate for housing justice with extensive experience in affordable housing, property management, and community development. He holds a B.A. in Communications from the University of Minnesota and a Master’s Degree in Management from St. Mary’s University of Minnesota.

A committed leader in housing equity, Walter played a pivotal role in preserving the Wilder Square Cooperative, an affordable housing community, through his leadership and advocacy. With experience owning and managing multimillion-dollar multifamily housing units, he has worked with HUD, the Minnesota Housing Finance Agency (MHFA), Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC), Section 8, and a wide range of housing programs. His expertise spans from single-family rentals to large apartment complexes, giving him a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and opportunities in housing policy and development.

Beyond housing, Walter serves as a business consultant, guiding aspiring entrepreneurs in business fundamentals and growth strategies. He is also a Certified SCORE Mentor, providing hands-on guidance to small business owners and startups seeking to build sustainable enterprises. His professional career includes a distinguished tenure at IBM, where he managed multi-state budgets and earned numerous accolades, including the prestigious IBM Means Service award.

Walter is also a dedicated educator and mentor. He has volunteered as an instructor in psychology and urban apologetics at the RDH School of Ministry in North Minneapolis. He has tutored students attending Saint Paul College, helping them strengthen academic skills, build confidence, and succeed in higher education. Passionate about lifelong learning, he has earned a certificate in the Fundamentals of Neuroscience from HarvardX and a Business certificate from ESSEC Business School.

In addition to his professional and educational contributions, Walter has served on the board of directors of the Frogtown Neighborhood Association and as president of the Wilder Square Housing Cooperative Board.

As Board Chair of the Housing Justice Center, Walter remains steadfast in his commitment to ensuring safe, stable, and affordable housing for all—while also investing in the next generation of leaders through mentorship, education, and community empowerment.
