< Back To Federally Subsidized Housing
During fiscal/calendar 2011, 25 rent supplement contracts and one RAP contract covering 1,362 units will expire. HUDís current policy is that regular vouchers will be provided in sufficient numbers to cover all of the contract units which were occupied by eligible households in the 24 months preceding expiration. However, the experience with the first expiring contract in Minnesota indicates that HUD takes no steps in advance of expiration to notify owners and tenants or to make arrangements with a PHA to administer the vouchers. Thus itís up to advocates to make sure this happens. Contracts are expiring in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Iowa, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Texas and Washington. It would be worthwhile to attempt to get HUD to provide vouchers retroactively if contracts have already expired in FY 2011.
